Newport Beach is full of fond memories with friends and family for us. We go there to have fun with friends, eating out and bar hopping, to hang out with family on the boardwalk, and to enjoy the various beaches like secluded Corona Del Mar beach. With all the amenities that Newport Beach has to offer, you can enjoy everything from a picnic day at the beach to splurging on a full lobster dinner within a few miles, all while enjoying to sights of the ocean and Newport Beach coast. Whether you're local or looking for a So Cal spot to plan a vacation, a Newport Beach getaway is an unforgettable experience to enrich your senses.
Newport Beach's Corona Del Mar beach is a secluded beauty with wildlife
One of the things we love about Newport Beach are the beaches! Corona Del Mar has long been a family favorite with its high bluffs, secluded beach, active tidepools, and level beach. The area is name for its bluffs, meaning “Crown of the Sea”. Park on tree lined streets near million dollar homes and then walk down the short road to Corona Del Mar Beach. There are on-site bathrooms and showers that are cleaned regularly so you can wash up after the beach and then head to dinner. We especially love checking out the tide pools full of wildlife like mini crabs, sea urchins, and more.
Make it a Family Night with Newport Beach Dining and Attractions
At the heart of Newport Beach is a classic Southern California boardwalk where eyes can take in towering seaside cliffs overlooking pristine beaches. My friend Tammy first introduced us to Rockin' Baja, a taco and seafood eatery at the beginning of the board walk. We would load up in the cars, head to Rockin' Baja for a delicious Baja style seafood dinner and the walk around. Behind Rockin' Baja is a donut shop that we'd stop at to get hot cocoa and fresh donuts before walking along the beach of down the boardwalk.  Ears perk up to the sounds of a classic Southern California boardwalk, with fisherman and sight seers alike walking from end to end. The nose is tempted by sweets from an old-time candy store or the scent of hot delicious donuts and coffee. And taste buds satisfied with fresh seafood at an oceanfront eatery. Tammy has since moved out of state but we still have those fond memories of spending time together with our families on the beach.
There's so much more to do besides walk on the beach! Rent bicycles and ride along the beach. Or enjoy a cruise with Hornblower Cruises. During the holidays, there are holiday home tours and boats decorated with lights to see along the shore among other Newport Beach events. Enjoy a Newport Beach Getaway with nightlife, luxury dining, and spa treaments
Newport Beach is for more than families. One time we left the kids home and had a fun night on the town, just us grownups! We got dinner at one of the many Newport Beach dining options and then bar-hopped at all the fun night spots along the beach. You really can have a lobster dinner and then go to a raucous bar and then head to get a luxury spa treatment all within an hour in Newport beach, where casual meets refined.
There's Newport Beach itself, which extends north and south of the boardwalk. There's free parking through the city streets and the beach is a nice flat walk from the streets. There are bathrooms and showers available and the kids can play on the elementary school playground, which sits on the beach. We've gone to this beach many times over the years to enjoy dipping our feet in the water, letting the kids play, and then enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee at the local Starbucks, which boasts one the of the few Starbuck's exclusive Clover coffee machines in the US. There's also shopping at the Fashion Island Mall, full of upscale shops and mall favorites. A Newport Beach getaway can be a day trip for So Cal locals to more by renting an on-the-beach cottage.
